One Week Arabic Course in Amman

Twenty-five hours of Levantine Arabic, one-to-one, over five days. Built for people who are in Jordan briefly and want to leave able to speak — not to have started a course they cannot finish.

Who this week is for

We would rather you book the right thing than the nearest thing. This is a short, private, high-intensity week — it is not a substitute for a full course.

A good fit if you

  • Are in Jordan for a short stay — work, research, reporting, a visit
  • Want spoken Levantine Arabic you can use the same afternoon
  • Are starting from zero, or close to it
  • Can give five days to it, Sunday to Thursday
  • Want your own teacher rather than a class

Look elsewhere if you

  • Can stay six weeks — the group term covers far more ground for less per hour
  • Need Modern Standard Arabic for reading or media
  • Already hold a conversation — private lessons at your level will serve you better
  • Can only study evenings or weekends

Your five days · أيّامُكَ الخَمْسَة

What the week looks like

Five teaching hours a day, Sunday to Thursday, at the centre in Jabal Al-Weibdeh. They are split in two, with a real break in the middle rather than one unbroken block.

Sunday

Sounds, greetings, introducing yourself, the first fifty words.

Monday

Numbers, money and prices — enough to handle a taxi or a shop on your own.

Tuesday

Ordering food, asking for things, saying what you want and don't want.

Wednesday

Directions, time, arranging to meet someone. Talking about your day.

Thursday

Putting it together — longer conversations, and what to keep practising after you leave.

First session

One-to-one with your teacher, working through Book A of the Amman Series — our own curriculum, written by Misbah teachers for the Arabic actually spoken in this city.

1–1½
Break

Long enough for lunch, a coffee, or a walk around Weibdeh on your own. Five hours in one block is more than anyone absorbs; this is what makes the second session worth having.

Second session

Back at the centre to consolidate the morning and move on. The exact timing of both sessions is arranged with you, around how you work best.

Honest expectations · ما سَتُتْقِنُه

What twenty-five hours actually gives you

Nobody becomes fluent in a week, and we will not tell you otherwise. Here is what students at this stage can reliably do by Thursday afternoon.

  • Greet people and introduce yourself properly
  • Read and write the Arabic letters
  • Use numbers, prices and money
  • Get where you are going by taxi
  • Order in a restaurant or café
  • Buy things and ask what they cost
  • Ask for directions and follow the answer
  • Hold a short conversation about yourself
You keep Book A when you leave, along with the notes and vocabulary from your week — so the same curriculum carries on if you continue online with us, or on your own.

The week starts when you land

Our group terms run to a fixed calendar. This one does not. Tell us the day you arrive and we build the five days around it.

How it works

  • Send us your arrival date and how long you are staying
  • We confirm a teacher and the five days, usually within a day
  • A deposit holds the week; the balance is due on your first morning
  • Mornings by default — afternoons if your work needs them

Worth knowing

  • Sunday to Thursday is the Jordanian working week — Friday and Saturday are the weekend
  • We need a few days' notice to hold a teacher for twenty-five hours
  • During Ramadan the hours shift; we tell you the exact times beforehand
  • Arriving mid-week is fine — the five days simply run across the weekend

Practical questions · أسئِلَة عَمَلِيَّة

Before you book a flight

Is five hours a day too much?

It is a full day, which is why it is never taught as one. You study two and a half hours, break for an hour or an hour and a half, then come back for the second two and a half. Most students use the break for lunch and a walk. The timing is arranged with you.

Do I need any Arabic before I start?

No. The week is built for complete beginners and starts with the letters and their sounds. If you already speak some Arabic, tell us your level and we will adjust the material rather than start from zero.

Is this Modern Standard Arabic?

No. This week is spoken Levantine Arabic — the dialect used in Jordan and Palestine, and the one you will hear in the street. If you need Modern Standard Arabic for reading or media work, our MSA programmes are the right place.

What if I can only stay four days?

Tell us. We would rather build a shorter week around your dates than have you pay for hours you cannot use. The rate is worked out from the same table.

Can I do this online instead?

Yes. The same twenty-five hours and the same curriculum can run online, split the same way across five days. What you lose is Amman itself — the practice between sessions, and hearing the dialect everywhere you go.

Can I try a lesson before committing?

Yes. Every new student is welcome to a free trial lesson. If you are already in Amman, it is the fastest way to see how we teach before you book the week.

Do you help with visas or accommodation?

We are not an agency, but we answer these questions constantly and are glad to point you in the right direction. Several guides on this site cover extending a visa, finding a flat and getting around Amman.

Send us your dates

Tell us when you land and how long you have. We will confirm a teacher, send the enrolment details, and arrange a free trial lesson if you would like one first.

Staying longer? Our six-week intensive group terms cover ninety hours at a lower rate per hour, on fixed dates through 2027. Staying a while but need your own schedule? Look at private lessons.
