Three friends, one city, and a lot of people far from home.
Misbah Center was founded in Amman in 2016 to do more than teach Arabic — to help people arriving from anywhere in the world build a real life here, in the language of the place.

It started with three friends and a city full of newcomers
Misbah Center was founded in 2016 by three friends who worked in different fields and had little in common professionally. What they shared was Amman, and a life already full of people who had come from somewhere else — international students, new arrivals, friends of friends trying to find their footing in a city they did not yet understand.
They kept watching the same thing happen. Someone would arrive full of enthusiasm, sign up for Arabic somewhere, and still be unable to rent a flat, argue with a landlord, explain a problem at the pharmacy or make a single Jordanian friend. The language was being taught as a subject, separate from the life the person was actually trying to live.
So they decided to become the bridge themselves: to help people arriving from every nationality build real relationships here, and to support them through the practical details of starting a life in Amman. That decision set the method before it set the school. Everything we have built since — our own curricula, the small groups, the sessions outside the classroom — comes from one question we keep asking: does this help the student handle their actual day?

An old Arabic saying: to know a people's language is to be safe from misunderstanding them.
How we teach منهجنا
Four things that shape every lesson here
Our own curricula, written for daily life
We write what we teach, because nothing on the shelf was built for what our students actually needed. The Al-Ain Series covers Modern Standard Arabic across four levels, and the Amman Series covers Levantine from zero to upper-intermediate.
Both Arabics, side by side
Fusha for reading, writing and formal work. Levantine for the taxi, the market and the family dinner. Most of our students take one as their backbone and the other as a weekly session.
Small enough that you speak
Groups run three to six students, and one-to-one and pair lessons are available at every level. Nobody spends an hour listening to someone else practise.
The city is part of the classroom
We are in Jabal Al-Weibdeh, one of Amman's most walkable neighbourhoods. Cafés, galleries, bakeries and conversation are a few steps from the door, and we send students into them on purpose.

People who need Arabic for very different reasons
We have never wanted a single type of student. On any given week the centre holds a researcher working through a nineteenth-century text, a journalist preparing for an interview, and someone who simply moved here and is tired of pointing at menus.
Beyond the classroom خارج الصف
Arabic is not a subject. It is a room full of people talking.
A language you only ever practise with a teacher stays a school language. So a good part of what we do happens away from the whiteboard.

In Jabal Al-Weibdeh, third floor, blue sign at the door
Weibdeh is the old hill of Amman: galleries, bookshops, stairs everywhere and a café on most corners. If you are coming for the first time, look for the blue sign reading “Study Arabic — Misbah Center”. The building has a lift.
